For Those Looking for Services:
Absolutely not! You may contact members directly and decide if you want to hire them. If you decide to hire them, you pay them directly. Neighbor Hire does not take any commissions.
Neighbor Hire supports entrepreneurship by helping its members find work and grow their business. It creates fair work and pay by providing an easy way for people to market their services directly to the public. Both the consumers win and the small business people win!!
No. We do not screen our members. We are not an employment agency.
We encourage you to check references, work experience, licenses, and decide if the person providing the service is right for you. However, there are conditions of membership. For example, members agree to represent themselves accurately. If you discover that a member has misrepresented themselves, please let us know. Also, if you receive poor service, we would like to know, as complaints may also be a cause for canceling someone's membership.
You can recommend someone by clicking on the "recommend" link on their profile. The member will receive this recommendation and determine whether or not to show it on their profile.
First, check your spam folder to make sure it didn't catch the reply . Second, email the person again. You can also check their profile to see if they gave a phone number. If you still don't hear back, please let us know. A condition of membership is that members reply to inquiries.
For Members (those who provide services)
Membership includes a personal profile that you can easily update at any time. We then drive people to your profile, via paid advertising, search engine optimization, social networks, partnerships with other organizations, and more. By joining, you are also part of a large referral network, so you can receive referrals from other members.
Membership is free for caregivers (sitters, nannies, elder and companion care, pet care/dog walkers) and only $29.00 a year for everyone else.
There is no catch. We do not charge a commission or charge for leads. People contact and hire you directly.
Being a free and robust resource where people can find caregivers brings a lot of people to the site, a lot of people who will hire more than just caregivers. Therefore providing free membership for caregivers benefits all members. In addition, we believe that making it easy for people to offer caregiving services -- and for others to find these services -- helps build stronger communities so we want to make it as easy as possible.
No. We are not that kind of site. What people can do is submit a recommendation for you and then you can choose whether or not to show that recommendation on your profile.
About Membership Levels
Profiles are ordered first by membership level and then by the date your profile was added to the site.
First: Sponsor Members, ordered by the date they became a Sponsor.
Second: Paid Members, ordered by the date their profiles were approved.
First: Sponsor Members, ordered by the date they became a Sponsor.
Second: Paid Members, ordered by the date their profiles were approved.
If you become a sponsor you will always appear before all basic members and all sponsors whose profile was approved after you. If you become a basic member, your profile will appear before all basic members whose profile is approved after yours.
Yes. You must be 18 or over. You cannot offer illegal or adult services. You must represent yourself accurately. Please read all the terms here.
About Profiles
Yes. When you complete the profile the first time, we will need to approve it, to make sure you are following guidelines and your services are appropriate for the site. After that, you can update it on your own. You can also hide your profile at any time.
Yes. One of the things that really sets us apart from other sites is the ability to see the people you are hiring. A personal photo where you are clearly visible is required.
Yes. If you would like, you can mail a photo to us and we will scan and upload it for you. There is a $10 charge for this service. If you would like to use this service, you will see a link with information about this service while you are creating your profile.
No. Publishing your rates is optional. However, for some services -- such as caregiving and home help -- publishing your rates can give you a real advantage as site visitors are likely to contact those who publish their rates before those who do not.
Every profile comes with a contact form that allows site visitors to send you an email. This form will keep your email address private. This is the suggested method for allowing people to contact you as it prevents spam. However, you are free to place your email address or phone number on your profile.
Of course. You can also list your Twitter page, Facebook page, My Space page or any other ways visitors can find out more about you.
A profile can be listed under one category. If you would like to list under an additional category -- say if in addition to the services you provide you are also an instructor -- you can purchase a second profile for that purpose.
If what you do doesn't fit under any category you can always list in the "Other" section. We may be adding more categories in the future.
Yes, membership includes a personal URL you can use to promote your profile at neighborhire.com/you choose
If you don't place your email address on your profile and require visitors to use the contact form to contact you, spam should be very limited -- and we do take measures to prevent people from abusing the contact form, such as banning IP addresses and limiting the number of emails one person can send in an hour.
